This is it. The Holy Grail I've been looking for. My locomotive of the week is a Tyco C430 I bought off Ebay. This one has the 8 wheel drive with FLywheels I wish Tyco had adopted in their locomotives, and it is a sweet runner.

Note that is has the correct Alco fuel tank, not the EMD one used by Tyco, or the weird thing the Pemco/Mehano versions have.

Front and rear views. Note the Tyco number board inserts are on both the front and back. Also note the filled in pilots to give this unit the same look as an Atlas C425.

The couplers have been modified to mount inside the body shell.

Here is what is under the hood. This drive looks at first glance like an Athearn but it is not. Note there are no covers on the worms on the trucks. I have an old Train Miniature FA1 that has a similar worm setup. I have no idea who made this drive, but it fits the C430, and appears to have had few if any modifications done to it to get it to fit. Honestly, I am stumped by this one. I would love to find out what drive was used, and how to get more of them. It appears this will be an easy conversion to DCC, and robust enough to pull my mountain grades. If anybody knows anything about this drive, please comment below. Now to find a similar drive setup for the C630.....

Tyco’s original release of the Super 630 has a 12-wheel drive Rivarossi mechanism. So what you’re looking for is out there, but it’s hard to find.

That was a modified Rivarossi U25C drive wasn't it? My grandfather had 3 of the U25Cs and they were brutes. They were also probably the best running diesels AHM sold. RIvarossi brought back a U25C updated to modern standards, and I have 3 of those. I wonder..........

The lone PathMark in Brooklyn is still there! It is owned by a supermarket company C&S Wholesale Grocers. They own Piggly Wiggly, Best Yet, IGA and Grand Union also.
