Just recieved my display cabinet on Friday. Ordered it from EGiftBoutique.com. They have nice display cabinets for your trains or other collections and good prices. This is the mirrored back as is why i took picture from side. The shelves are glass. This one holds 16 ho cars . You choose the finish you want. Going to order more to put my collection in.
Display cabinet of Tyco and Bachmann 1776 cars\

Very, very nice. It looks like you ordered item DC7115o, right?
Since I only have the 3 most common of the spirit of 76, I'm thinking what I could do. I am coming up with 3 spirit of 76 cars, 6 Tyco state cars, my F9 spirit of 76 engine/dummy set, and a spirit of 76 caboose. Hmmm, sounds like a plan.

Just thought I would pass along my picture of the case I got (same style as Brian) with the train cars I put in (man, I need a better camera). I don't have the extensive collection of some of you, but this is what I got as a child and have kept since (except for the old time car, which I picked up last year.

Edited to show better image of case (hooray - I got a new camera! [:D])

Nice. Very neat that you still have Tyco from your childhood years. I do not know about you--i am going to order some more of these cabinets. Thety are worth it for the money. I can not find any locally that cheap and look good for the price they have.

I know this has been a long time coming, but here is a second display I got, and what I have put in it (though not Bicentennials). I'd love to get one more, though I don't know where I would put it.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the info on the display cabinets. I ordered one of the larger ones to display loco's. It arrived prior to Christmas but it took me longer than expected to mount it on the wall and add loco's. The case has all Tyco or Mantua in it now, except the Lionel Snow Blower on the bottom shelf.

Eagelrock109 -- That is a nice case and i have been looking at that one- YOu say it is somewhat challenging due to its length i would guess. Looks GREAT!! with those Tyco's in it. They still have the best prices on cases and they are good quality.

Do the black engines blend into the background in person like they seem to in the picture? That has been my one concern about getting one of those larger sized displays, and why I have only gotten the mirrored backed ones.

Hi Brian & Sbenny, The length of the case wasn't to hard to deal with. It came with 2 metal supports for the base of the cabinet and 2 reinforced mounting points at the top on back. The spacing of the 2 top mounts was set at 29" on center. First I moved them to 16" on center to use the wall studs to secure the cabinet to. After checking the wall the genius that built this house has the studs at 24" on center. I again moved the top mount to 24". To actually install it onto the wall I mounted the bottom supports first, set the cabinet on the supports and then installed the screws at the top. The black loco's do blend in the background a bit in person but I don't think it's to bad. Prior to Chrismas the cabinets were on sale, the one I bought was 89.00 before shipping. I'm hoping to get a few more over time for more loco's and cars.

Here are mine shelves that I can up with...

the "fanged one"...
"Though amid all the smoking horror and diabolism of a sea-fight, SHARKS will be seen longingly gazing up to the ship's decks, like hungry dogs round a table where red meat is being carved, ready to bolt down every killed man that is tossed to them . . ." by Herman Melville

Very nice displays of your collection fellows. Since this thread was hidden for years I thought it would be nice to show this to the newer members.

Well, thank you wks, maybe I should get a display case, although my old bookcase serves just fine housing pretty much all my model railroad equipment (minus the unfinished locos)

I'll have to ask my dad if we have some extra shelves, then I'd have more room.

This is a pine shelf I made about 10 years back. It's followed me through a few moves but is not currently mounted.
