You asked. Here they are.

The first oen is a Mantua 0-6-0 sadddle tanker. This locomotive has languished in a box for about 15 years. I bought it, but it derails every time I try to run it. I've traced the problem to the center drivers being lower than the end ones, so the locomotive rocks back and forth on that driver. Usually this means the front axle isn't actually touching the rail, and on curves or switches it rides over top the rail and derails.
I am going to have to tear it apart one of these days. It will have to be stripped down to the bare frame, and the center axle slot milled a little deeper so the drivers sit right.

This one is for Chops. It is a Proto2000 GP7 in that splendid purple and silver seen on his passenger train. Ironically, Wifey picked both of these out. Then P2K unit runs and pulls well, but I usually get Bachmann GP7s instead of the protos.

Love that Metroliner. I've taken that beautiful train from Bridgeport to Manhattan. It is the absolute best way to gain entrance to NYC. Skips right past the traffic-clogged I-95 into mid-town Manhattan. I loved that train.
In the Amcafe you could get a weak cup of coffee and a pressed turkey sandwich. Delicious!!

My LOTW is a modified Mantua/Tyco Prairie. The usual Prairie has a plastic shell and a rubber traction tire, but that tire makes the locomotive sit a bit like a table with one leg too long making for poor electrical pickup, so I put the shell of a diecast Big Six on it and replaced the traction tire wheelset with one not made for a traction tire. Electrical pickup has been added to the insulated-side drivers, as well.
I have several of these modified Prairies, and they're kind of the workhorses of the railroad. To me, these Mantua steamers are what Tyco means. They're durable, dependable and easy to kitbash and modify.

That's my kind of steam power. It's small, heavily weighted, and perfect for 18" curves and 4% grades.
