As a wee lad of four, Dad, who had peculiar notions of family vacations, took us on a
business trip to the Soviet Union. This would have been about 1965. Though young,
I have a good memory, and I recall such lovely events as Russian cops harassing my
mother when she tried to take us for a walk to the (vacant) park. After that we stayed
in the hotel room and were warned not to speak badly (bugs) about our accomodations (dusty
and heavy furniture).

It was a thrill to ride the express out of Moscow, or wherever the Hell it was, towards
Finland, to the great relief of mother. The locomotive looked a lot like this:

Ah yes, I also recollect my mother getting her leg stuck in a tram door as it left without her, me
on board. Some big guy ripped the doors open and hauled my mother in, who was hopping on one
foot to keep up.

Thankfully someone got involved to help your mother Jeff.
Wish train operators would be more careful with the closing doors.

Thanks WKS. After a long absence essentially
chasing wild geese, Microbusss is getting me
back to the train table with a nice little wagon
and some really cool British signage. I'll be
popping out really annoying videos after
I clean the track off.
