Talking about "Rarest Tyco Items," I put a reserve bid of $400 on this set when it came up on eBay after years of constant searching. Occasionally, some heat melted F would come around, but to find it with the caboose, all of it intact, zinc rot and all, I had to have it. Frankly, I am getting tempted to hunt down some of the few other Australian Tyco pieces out there. They are really hard to find. It sold for $100, which is substantially more than I've ever paid for a Tyco piece. It is fully intact and runs sweetly on an MU2.

I like the rare stuff too! Haven’t gotten into the Aussie Tycos yet though.

Only ones I ever seen, Ben, are NSW (I think) done in a blue using the Tyco Crane and the crane tender. I'd love to know more about Tyco's entrance into the Australian market, but cannot find a word on the subject.

From what I've seen, there were at least 3 Aussie locomotives. You have the New SOuth Wales one. The Blue and yellow one you are thinking of it Victorian Railways, it is an F7 with a paint scheme vaguely reminiscent of the old Erie railroad. The only other one I know of is a C430 for Queensland Railways, in a light blue and white paint scheme.
All of these I've seen in photos, but never in person.
This brings up an interesting question: since the closest prototype for the massive 3 dome tanks car is a Commonwealth Railways car, also from Australia, were they making a serious play for the Australian market and did they intend to produce more Australian themed cars and locomotives?
