You're in luck; it's been produced in plastic by at least four manufacturers - Athearn, Proto 2000, Atlas Trainman, ands the Life-Like toy line (avoid at all costs). The Athearn will be the lowest priced for decent quality, the Proto 2000 is the best detailed but not the best runner, and the Atlas is the best runner but sparse on detail.

However, there are no commercially-available NBSR locomotives. You'll have to paint and decal your own. Decals are made by a Canadian company called Railflyer Model Prototypes.

One thing about the NBSR locomotives are their distinctly Canadian detailing and their lack of dynamic brakes. Even if you want to just capture the flavor of an NBSR locomotive and forego the rivet-counting, you'll need a nose headlight and a between-the-number-boards bell.

I'm modeling one of these locomotives, and I live in New Brunswick too. If you need help or pointers, just let me know.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for the info. I have ordered a GP38-2 unpainted so I can paint myself. Do you know what colour they use?? I got a lot of info from traingeek.ca!
What part of NB do you live?

Hi Ken, I live in Fredericton. Steve, the guy who runs the traingeek.ca website, was also from here and I've met him a few times. He's now based out of Winnipeg.

Well, the unit I'm modeling is one of the Sunbury GP38-2s, so I'm using Tamiya Lemon Yellow on mine, but a good match for the NBSR green color is BN Green.

I've also heard of a Testors spray can color meant for Nascar models that's apparently a dead-on match. I want to say it's the green meant for Nascar cars sponsored by John Deere, but I'm not 100%. Talk to the guys at Valley Train Shop (used to be The Train Trax) in Rothesay; they know their stuff when it comes to NBSR and may also have a stock of Railflyer decals available.

Railflyer used to be an NB company (they were based in a place called Kars, which is in the Sussex area) but are now in Ontario. Either way, a class act company to deal with.

The traingeek.ca website is not affiliated with Railflyer - it's a one guy website. The owner used to live in Fredericton and is a real nice guy too - I got my Revell SW7 from him, incidentally.
