Was lucky enough to find a Renwal #462 Two Way Coaling Station - never used or built - at a show. It prefers Revell Hopper cars, but can use Tyco operating Hoppers with the Tyco tripping device. PM me if you have any unused Revell or Tyco operating hoppers you wouldn't mind parting with.

If TycoJohnny can't help you out...

...I do have one Revell operating hopper that was given to me by a friend. I understand they're pretty scarce, but I don't think he would mind me passing it to you if you need it.

For what it's worth, the Revell operating hopper is pretty gimpy. I was surprised just how clumsy it is. Tyco's are a lot better!

They do operate a little differently though... so why exactly does the Renwall kit prefer the Revell...? Is it designed to use the Revell car's side feelers?

Hey would you believe, the Haunt restocked today and there was one Revell hopper there?! It's missing the stirrups and half of one truck but it's otherwise serviceable in nice shape. PM me so I know where to send it!

I've never really seen the Revell Operating Hoppers, so I don't know what the hopper triggering mechanism looks like. Renwal state they designed the Coaling Staton along the side to trigger Revell Hoppers with no modifications. Tyco needs the adapter on the track to trip the hoppers (I have 2 Virginian Operating Hoppers).

Renwal didn't talk about the Gilbert hoppers so I'm not sure about those ...

The Revells operate very much like the AF cars. There are tabs on either side of the hopper that are pulled down by the ribs that protrude from the sides of the coaling station. I don't see any reason why the AF cars wouldn't work with it.

I still have the one I built when I was a kid, but I used a little too much model glue back then. It's a cool model, but I could never really understand the point of it, since it just dumps coal out of one hopper and fills another one on the lower track. Seems like a pointless operation.

Heh heh ... yeah. No more pointless than the Tyco 862 Hopper Unloading Set or Ore Unloading Set that dumps into a plastic box beneath the track.

Still trying to figure out who had the cheesier operating accesories - Tyco with items like the Clementine Glow-In-The-Dark Operating Gold Mine or Bachmann's offerings like The Cowardly Cow and The Frantic Farmer.
