Model of the train in the 1985 movie Runaway Train. Complete movie on YouTube.
I did not put the link to the entire movie here because it has some profanity and violence.

To create the train for the film the producers leased an actual Canadian Pacific Railway steam locomotive from the Steamtown Foundation in Bellows Falls Vermont.

The train's locomotive was renumbered from its original 1293 to 1881 and along with five stainless steel passenger cars was painted black with silver stripes.

Afterwards the Steamtown Foundation reverted the engine back to its original number 1293 and had it restored to a historic paint and letter scheme.

Production designer Glenn Bywdwell crafted the interiors of the train in an Art Deco style.

As of January 2021 Canadian Pacific Railway No. 1293 continues to be an operable locomotive.

As we know Robert Redford passed away today. Great actor and man who did a lot of charity work.

Train scenes in one of his movies The Natural.

Steam engine used in the movie The Natural with Robert Redford.

The specific steam locomotive featured in the 1984 film The Natural was the Grand Trunk Western 4070.

A USRA 2-8-2 Mikado-type steam locomotive. This engine was used for scenes filmed in Wayland New York.

And is now undergoing restoration by the Midwest Railway Preservation Society.

About the Locomotive:

Type: A USRA Light Mikado (2-8-2) steam locomotive.

Original Owner: Grand Trunk Western.

Featured in The Natural: The locomotive was rented for the filming of The Natural in Wayland, New York.

Current Status: It is currently undergoing restoration by the Midwest Railway Preservation Society to return it to operational status.

Some videos of the engine before and after the movie was made.
Ran on a tourist train near Cleveland Ohio.

Has not run since 1991 but it is being restored.

Hopefully soon will be back in action.
