You're just a glutton for punishment! At least the bulk of the work has been completed.

Are all the parts there?

Arbour was one of the 19 (nineteen) companys bought by John English (Bowser MFG.)

The John English company was long out of business when Arbour Models came along in, I believe, the late 70s. This line had a few engines but the quality just wasn't there. Parts didn't fit, castings were crude and the kits weren't cheap. The company stopped producing kits in the early 80s. The articulated was a bad choice for a kit from a new maker. I read somewhere that Bowser had purchased the tooling and inventory.

I have been fooling with HO kit engines for many years but Arbour is one maker whose kit I never was able to locate. I had wanted to get one and try my luck at assembling one.

Good luck in completing the Allegheny!

Edit by Toptrain 4-3-21. As a moderator, I can do certain things. One of them is adding or editing a post here. For those who don't know there were two John English persons involved in the Model Train industry. As mentioned here one owned The Bowser company. The other the John English company and HObbyline Two different people with the same name that from what is known were not releated.

I've been interested in Arbour Models for a while now.

I finally got my greasy little hands on an Arbour kit.

Did you ever finish yours? I'm going to build about 4 more steam locomotives before I start this one.

I figured once I built a few Tycos and Bowsers I could probably handle mine.

Anyways, does anyone else have any of these Arbour Models?

I think Darth Santa Fe has a couple of YouTube videos on the subject. Having time on my hands I watched him pull it together over a period of a year (or two?) The amount of patience and skill was astonishing. Like watching open heart surgery. Your experience will be most interesting, best of luck!

So I take it, it’s a tough kit then?

What issues are you having with yours?

Oh no haha. The one I got is the 2-8-4 Kanawha kit. I’m excited to build it but I want to do another Tyco and two Bowsers before I start it.

So right now it’s just sitting with all of my other new in box kits teasing me!

I find good deals on eBay on kits. I rarely have to pay out through my teeth for something I want. It’s a lot cheaper buying and building HO kits than it is buying Lionel Legacy or MTH Premier stuff. That stuff is just way too expensive for now...especially when buying new out of the catalog.

I´m sorry to say that Arbour is junk! replaced all the weak rods , levers and eccentriccs with Bowser parts.
Also the Baker Valve gear! but one importent part part of the frame is broken away. the best thing about the locomotive is the kemtron motor. But that's about all.
I hope I can still use the thing somehow! - Erich

Wow, all that effort down the drain. I was a little suspicious of the Arbour
brand, even though it is way beyond my abilities. What I'd seen from DarthSanta Fe videos
is the enormous amount of time spent fitting badly machined parts. It takes a special breed
to even consider tackling one of these projects. So I take it no way the frame can be fixed??

My efforts that failed concerning the Allegany Locomotive were not involved with the Arbour model company, except with a problem of bad drivers from a 4-6-0 kit they made. With the Allegany, mine had to do with the stone age WINTON kit. It became for me impossible to complete this kit without a resistance soldering tool. I was able to trade the kit away. Now 8 years ago I acquired this.

I just never did anything with it, instead, I built RDG 4-4-4 110, CNJ I-4 Camelback 2-8-0, CNJ I-5 Camelback 2-8-0, LVRR Camelback 4-4-0, CNJ Camelback 4-4-0, the 1841 first terminal on the Hudson, so then I was busy. My Winton 2-6-6-6 is still as you see it.
I guess this makes me an unsuccessfully Allegany maker.

Here is what I was able to do concerning the Allegany. I bought a brass one.
