Hi Guys. I was doing a show today and found this in an Athearn Box Marked Undec. Athearn. So I opened the box and there was no Athearn it was a Tyco 50 ft boxcar in unpainted white plastic. I did not think that Tyco had undecorated cars for sale. At first I thought that maybe someone dipped it in stripper.. But, This shows no signs of any paint. All the plastic strippers I have used still leave some paint behind. Especially in the nooks and crannies. Anyone seen others..??? Have added picture. You can almost see though it. Frame can be seen inside shell. Carl

Well, can't say that's something you see everyday! I've never seen a white plug-door box (kinda-Casper-the-ghost spooky). I've seen old 40 ft. undecorated blanks as supplied by Mantua to Penn Line for their line pre-1963. They were brown (or Tuscan) if you prefer, in preparation, I suppose for their treatment as Union Pacific box cars in the Penn Line. E&H sold some of the blanks after acquiring the post-bankruptcy inventory in 1964. Your translucent white plug door certainly is an oddity! MagAc

I have seen undec LifeLikes in marked boxes marked as such, but not Tyco. i That's a neat-looking car. The stirrups almost look "liquidy"
Still, there aren't _too_ many nooks on a 50-foot boxcar... and Scalecoat WashAway is surprisingly effective. I bet if I started with a poorly-painted thin-coated car like my Quaker Oats, it could be done. But I'm not willing to try just yet [;)]

I have striped dozens of Tyco pluggers over the years but I have never gotten a shell to look this clean, I'm pretty sure that is virgin plastic.

I have stripped many a car- Tyco, Roco, etc. The cars that strip clean and show the ghostly transparent white are the best, But it appears almost any color may show up depending what the source pellets were.
An AHM modern stock car
A limesicle Tyco plugger
A Tyco 40 foot boxcar
This was a true tragedy. WKS sent this to me, but in original form it was a mint condition PC boxcar. I received this at the height of the pandemic when my wife was spraying "everything" down with 91% ISP alcohol, which made this car all speckled! In to the stripper tank it went...
And finally a Roco 40 foot insulated boxcar
So it is always a surprise what lurks under a car that is headed to the dunk tank.
