Is this by Tyco? Can't find a maker's mark. One of my early pieces as I slid down the slippery slope. I loved the weird glow in the dark effect and the chunky, toy-like look. On the bottom, completely hidden from view, are what look like traction grids, wholly off the theme of being toy-like, and obscured. Maybe just a molding mark? Anyhows, it tracks rather well, despite it's light weight.

Those are definitely Tyco. Not sure if they were from a logging set or simply one offs, but you are correct in their weird color. Looks like a Fogite alloy!

Then I got this weird must have another, or two, sensation. Like I really need this. Went to feeBay and entered "HO log car," and got about 700 items. I am still scrolling through the results and have not seen one, yet. Or even close.

That little notched edge by the ladder indicates this car is made using a tyco hopper car frame. Interesting.

TYCO first catalogued this car in 1969 as T-350. Last catalogued in 1972 as #350.

WKS sent me that car a few weeks ago. I did not notice the hopper car clips. I have to check that out.

Got this cutie from Canada today! It gives me motivation to finish the "Mormon's Gulch" portable layout.

MorMon's Gulch. Though the former had a ring of truth to it. Only a moron would attempt what I am doing.

My COTW is a pair of cars acting as one:
There are two Varney/Lifelike flat cars with the same road number. One is loaded with a bulldozer and the other is empty. One of the cars has a heavy, cast metal center sill and the other has a plastic one:
The heavier car is the one that runs empty and the lighter car relies on the bulldozer for weight.
In one operating session, the loaded car gets spotted at the unloading ramp. Between times, I hand swap the empty car for the loaded one. Later when I run trains again, the empty is removed from the ramp and sent on its way:
I got the cars at a swap meet dirt cheap, but without trucks or couplers. Those I added from my own hoarded supply.
Carpe Manana!

From my workshop. I found an old MARX just like this in the same terrible shape last year and decided to redo it.
Its current state, Just painted the chassis this morning...
On atlasrescueforum, there was a fellow who would buy old cheaper cars with interesting graphics and rebuild them with finer details and redo the graphics for clear razor sharp details. So I blame him on this new obsession!
And a foobie for a friend's fictitious line
