That engine looks identical to the one Chops posted. Were these produced by a company? I assumed most would be custom built.

Cheez, I have not idea as to the particulars of this interesting
photo, I just stumbled over it, randomly. It would be great to
know.

It would appear to relate to Salt Lake City, and the manner of
dress brings pre WWI to mind. The wooden expression on the
face of the engineer makes one think that people were of a
flat affect in general. I owe this phenomena to a generation of
people completely new to photography and the idea of "smile
for the camera" had yet not been conceived.

The young man looks intensely bored. As a job, though, it would be
an awesome way to meet girls. I'd say he had it made!

Looks like he spent time tramping in mud.
