My LOTW. I just picked this Great Northern C430 up at a trainshow. I have a question though. Did they original come sealed inside the box? This one is and has it's handrails as well. Doesn't look like it's ever been open or run

I don’t believe I ever saw any with shrink wrap or bagged. Does the box info match the loco? The box looks like it has seen a lot of wear and tear. I’m guessing the seller wrapped everything up to keep from getting something lost while lugging it to shows. It is a nice looking loco.

I have at least one engine shrink-wrapped like this, but I have no idea if it came from the factory that way. Nice engine regardless!

That is a rare one! And it has its original box too. Not sure regarding the shrink wrap, but nonetheless, congrats!

So, Tyco never made a GN caboose? I did think that GN loco was rare as hen's teeth, diamond encrusted at that, and this has to be a mint example.

Nice engine, quaker. I was fortunate and found a F7, but not the Alco.
As to the shrink wrap, I've had a few come that way and think that the seller uses their food preserver to shrink wrap their stock. I don't believe Tyco did this when their inventory left the factory.

My LOTW will be a two-fer special.
In early 1962, Ephrata Valley purchased a singular FA-2 locomotive, #302, from the Western Maryland railroad. With the EV badly needing horsepower in the years before the first GP38s rolled out, this unit was a welcome addition. It was so welcome, EV shops performed some maintenance on the old unit, then just blacked out the WM markings and sent it on its way. #302 would maintain this scheme for several months of revenue service. For a while it was nicknamed 'Blackout' due to its rushed attempt of a paint job. Later on in the summer it would be resprayed in heritage red
In 1971 a small transfer railroad started up on some former Pennsy trackage on the western part of the EV system. It's 48 miles of track served a coal mine and several industries out west, then met up with EV's interchange with the Penn Central at Schuylkill. Powered by a rag-tag group of secondhand EV Alcos and this attractively dressed U36B, the shortline would handle many trains until the tracks would go abandoned in 1987. EV would purchase 305 in 1988, and remembered it to 1768. The 1768 still serves EV to this day.

Thanks, Scmich, I had never heard of those two variations. This is Tyco: there is always yet another piece out there.
