May I present....the largest, most expensive, and the most challenging HO-Scale building kit I've ever built....the Faller Coal Mine (B-945). It took me 9.5 hours to build, and at least another 2 hours or so to weather it and set it up on the layout. This is officially the Ephrata Coal Mine - I kept the original Ephrata Coal Company (Model Power Blue Coal Depot) and weathered it too, to create a giant Ephrata Coal Company site. Needless to say, there is a lot of scenery work to be done to the scene.

I'm guessing that there were quite a few pieces in that kit. But, it was worth it as the finished product looks good!

220 pieces to be exact. Thanks!

Did you count all those pieces, or was it printed on the box? Looks excellent regardless!

That's why it was a 9.5 hour build! 4 hours were spent tallying up the pieces!
Very nice work on that, actually.
In spite of its German prototype, that structure would look perfect at any number of breakers and collieries in Schuylkill County, PA until they were knocked down in the 60s and 70s.

Or here's a better compact view:

Despite their huge size, there is virtually no clue left that these structures ever were in the area.

No, I'm too lazy to do that. It was printed somewhere in the instructions, I believe.
Thanks! Actually, when I opened the box (it had been re-shrink-wrapped) the most important piece was missing, the base. I will talk about that in the video I have planned.
It took so long because of the MANY small detail pieces....which were an absolute pain to glue. But, it was such an awesome feeling to look at it when it was all built, and admire my handiwork.
Wow, yeah I knew it was a European prototype, but I always loved the look. But seeing those old pictures and drawings of massive coal breakers right here in PA, makes me even happier I decided to build one for the Ephrata Coal Company.
