I guess you'd call these an accessory. What I have here is Genuine Tru Scale roadbed. This stuff is, sadly, no longer made. It came in three varieties: Plain without ties like the switch block, Milled with the ties already cut into the roadbed like the 24r curve and 3' straight sections shown, and Ready Track which had code 100 rail already installed. This stuff makes some of the best material for handlaid track. It's pine and knot free, so it is easy to spike into, The wood is dense enough to hold the spikes better than any other roadbed, but not too hard like plywood. All that needs to be done is stain it, lay rail (and ties if necessary) and ballast it.
Tru Scale, from what I've been able to gather, came out sometime in the 1950s, and was produced up until maybe ten years ago, though by then it had to be special ordered from the manufacturer. It came in a wide variety of radii from 14" to 48". Switch and crossing blocks were also available in a variety of sizes.

Interesting railbed, JW. We used some at the train club- it was sensitive to humidity.
Got a Minotaur and double headed cows who were grazing too close to the Jade Fog Plant.

You must be thinking of HomaBed, a similar product made out of Homasote. It is a pressed fiber board product that does swell with humidity. That's a problem here in Pennsylvania where the summers are very humid. TruScale was made from pine, and not affected by moisture as much. and, unlike HomaBed, it can be stained to protect against moisture even further. It's been in use on my dad's railroad since 1978, and he's had no problems with it.
My own experience with it has been similar.
