We are pleased to announce that the National Model Railroad Month will once again be celebrated by an Open House at the El Paso Model Railroad Train House (Railroad Model and Historical Association of El Paso) each Sunday in November from 12 to 5 PM. Join us at this FREE event featuring operating model trains representing the history of railroading in O, HO. and N Gauge as well as a new addition of LEGO Trains.

Please drop by with family and friends for a fun afternoon for Kids of all ages.

(Only Railrens will be allowed).

We are located at 6335 Vaughn Court just off Ascarate between Alameda and Delta.

As a special treat, we will be raffling a Lionel Ready to Run O Gauge Train Set with an extra track package. A value of over $400.00. Tickets will be $5.00 each and the winner will be announced after the last Sunday in November. Not necessary to be present to win.

This is a free event, but we gladly accept donations to help offset our operating expenses.

Contact (915)276-9541 or (915)238-0904 for information.

What’s a Railren?

A Railren is a Railr without the oad. I was a member for twenty years of this august
institution. We used to bicker over the cost of paper towels, and after I won a
corporate sponsor, the UP Foundation, they took the new found winnings and
bought a $7,000 storage container just as Covid was ramping up. I left, never
been back, don't miss it.

Tyco Forum is like a digital train club, but generally with less issues. While there, I tried to
accommodate young model railroaders and encourage them to join. This had its own set of problems,
teaching them how to put stuff on the track and fixing broken couplers, and stuff. They were also
intensely curious, and would often put electrical blocks and turn out settings in disarray that took
hours to straighten out, after they had gone home tonight. I didn't have the heart to tell them
not to be flipping toggles, but man-oh-man they created some electrical and routing nightmares
on a layout that was very big, and not at all user friendly.

Now people can throw whatever toggles and switch settings they care to.

I still don't get the point, but it's ok.

Sorry to hear the club experience was less than satisfactory, Chops.

Sorry, 2 am humor.

The point being is that they mispelled the word "railroad" as "railren" in their PSA.

Well, chalk it up to differing views of how to finance the place. My view was fiscal conservancy and to push
forward an agenda of trying to raise revenue by increasing the membership rolls by increased advertising. The administration, many of whom I had recruited over the years, did not see it that way. It's the manner of a democratic vote, and I ended up being in the minority.

I was frustrated, and hope they do not kill of the place by their spending policies, like
a $7,000 rusted Sea Container, which in a city that reaches over 100 degrees much of the summer, will
a. bake everything b. be contaminated with ambient dust c. be used as a collection bin for people dropping off used VCR's and back issues of model train magazines and d. is a public eyesore in a residential neighborhood.

Their views did not correspond with my own, and so it was better to move on than to sit around and
complain. I'll try to avoid obscure humor in the future, sorry.

No need to apologize; I’m often guilty of obscure humor myself. I just figured I was being a little thick!
