Anyone recognize this logo?
I have a model of an ALCO FA that seems to be cobbled together from parts much like an Athearn drive, but not quite. The frame has this logo on it.

I was thinking "Marx," but it doesn't show up in the logo registry.

Marx is usually "MAR" with a big X through it, so we may not have arrived at the answer.
Can anyone confirm or deny?

Do you have photos of the whole diesel?
That logo is like nothing I've ever seen at least. It almost looks like a big "C" with "W" and "M" inside. Could it be an old Walthers diesel or something?

I don't have photos of the whole thing, and it's taken all apart, but I can put it back together and post a shot.

Looking everything over, it really seems to be Athearn, but I don't know why the crazy trademark.

A little internet searching turned up a company with a very similar logo called Chicago White Metal Casting. They’re certainly in the right business!

That would make sense if Athearn farmed out some of its casting. White metal casting is a touchy business, anyway, and it would make sense to have specialists do it. Any impurity in the metal causes zinc pest, where the casting slowly swells and crumbles.
Thanks for putting me onto that.

The start of the story is me buying an ALCO FA at a swap meet. The coupler height was too low, and the body sits kind of high. The chassis looked like something Athearn, but probably of an earlier era than the Athearn stuff I was used to. The trucks have plastic gears and gear boxes like you see now, but the side frames are diecast with brass bearings outboard of the wheels. The paint on all the diecast parts was chipped up gloss paint, which I have removed and primed the metal. The primer is now drying.
The plan is to put flat paint on the frame and side frames, tinker with the couplers until the height is right, fix a problem with the engine rocking like a boat in heavy seas and try to reletter a Pennsy paint job for my railroad.
There'll be pictures when the time comes.
