My AOTW will be the new Siren for Ephrata Valley.

Unfortunately the Model 5 Siren Anderson Shops rebuilt in the middle of last year was struck by lightning, completely frying the motor. This new FS STH-10 will be a fine replacement for the city of Ephrata Valley.

For a while I had a blank space on my 11x8 L-shaped layout, near the TYCO lighted signal crossing and Bachmann blinking oil tank, and across from my Life-Like Town Church and Ace Supermarket. But a while back I got a nice accessory to put in that space...

Believe it or not, that Operation Lifesaver billboard is actually made by ATHEARN! Yep, we know Athearn usually doesn't make accessories (generally they just make locomotives and rolling stock), but they did have a line of "modern billboards", along with some autos (and their dual crossing gate in the early 1960s). I've always been keen on Operation Lifesaver (next year will be their 50th anniversary since they've founded), and maybe with this in place my layout will have less railroad crossing accidents!

Of course, there are a couple of railroad crossings right near the billboard, so hopefully it does its' job! (Seriously, I remember back in the late 1990s, it was once every 90 minutes a train would hit a person or vehicle in the USA, while nowadays it's every three hours.)
