Enjoy as HO-Scale PRR 2-8-0 "Consolidation" #1188;, a Model Power Old Time steam locomotive, hauls a short freight train on the Ephrata Valley RR. The growl sound of this locomotive when running is incredible.

SWEET. More and more steam is making appearances on
the EVRR. Is that a tender driven model? The soundtrack
is perfect.

Yes! My love and knowledge of HO steam locomotives is growing big time.

It is tender-driven, yep. Thank you, I'm glad to hear that the soundtrack was perfect.

Is the drive system in the tender like on that Chattanooga or is just the motor in the tender?

The motor is in the tender, but the drive system is nothing like the Tyco Chattanooga...in that it is not a powertorque "pancake-style" motor. The motor is a can motor with 2 worm gears at both ends which turn smaller gears in both wheel sets on the tender....certainly an interesting set-up, and noisy.

I wonder if you couldn’t take that mechanism and shoe horn it into a Chattanooga.

If the wheelbase was close...not a bad idea. I had one of those and ran the Dickens out of it, even DCC’d it. An odd mech, the locomotive was surprisingly detailed for the price point. My major issue was the pilot derailing with any small irregularity.

Hmmmm, I didn't think of that, but I will take a closer look at my Tyco 2-8-0 and Model Power 2-8-0 tomorrow, and compare the 2. If I remember correctly, the MP old-timer "Consolidation" has a shorter tender....
