I recently purchased a lot of 3 locomotives, mainly for the GN tyco alco 430. It arrived today and to my dismay it was probably the worst packed set of trains I've ever received.
The other two had some breaks, but the tyco was really mangled - primarily the front and back where they had included no bubble wrap at all.
Is this repairable? I've fixed plenty of motors but never physical damage like this. I got it for a good price, and it would be a shame to return it considering how rare these are and the fact it would likely get thrown out.
Not really sure what to do with it.

| Definitely complain though. And see if you can get a refund or partial refund. I never understood why people who sell on ebay make no plans for the sold item to make it safely to the buyer. Inconceivable.

It wasnt on ebay, it was from goodwill's online site. I've had widely varying results from them, some locations way overpack and some do.. this. Some hide issues in the photos and some take great photos of all angles, but you get what you pay for I guess. May start having to submit a note about packing properly with each order. yay.
I'll definitely complain to them, but I believe they have an all or nothing return policy. Will find out.
What is an appropriate adhesive for this? Is superglue ok?

If you're interested I think I would be able to get that fixed up for you. I have a Parts C430 at my disposal, and enough handrail stanchions to completely replace the damaged ones, as well as the rear handrail that's distorted. I can probably go in from behind and glue the pilot's back together fairly easily, at worst you'd lose a headlight. I'd do it for $20-25 which includes return shipping, and I do pack to survive.

I've found solvent adhesives to work pretty well for the styrene that plastic models are usually made of.

I only ship uninsured when the buyer requests, and only if they
assume all risk. I've sent hundreds and hundreds of parcels
by USPS when I was liquidating this lady's late husband's
model train estate, and I came to learn that fully ten percent
of shipments got thrashed or outright lost by USPS. I paid out
hundreds out of pocket for this privilege.
One package was a set of glass telegraph pole insulators. I must
have used five yards of bubble wrap and nested them in great
wads of newspaper. Heavy, too, must have cost $35 or more to
ship. Arrived in crystals.
Another time, shipped a Mantua Ten Wheeler, NOS, across town.
Packed it for Armageddon. Fifteen miles later it was blasted.
I've had packaging arrived ripped, squashed, with boot prints
and tire tread marks, lost, mangled by USPS.
Nasty that a rare piece would get bashed like that, but a few
drops of super glue and a little pressure will hopefully restore
it right.
The riveted coupler pocket can be gently prised open, and a new coupler installed,
it will click back shut with a gentle squeeze of pliers.

| Wow! Bad luck chops... I have done over 1000 ebay transactions and only had 1 item get smashed! It was a big bird cage handled by UPS. It was insured I got a replacement. I have one piece get LOST in the USPS mail for a month, but later arrived in good condition... I was worried about the 1 of 50 Krispy Kreme box car getting smashed since it's unreplaceable!!

Ouch! That is unfortunate, especially on such a classic Tyco piece. But, definitely try to get a refund considering it wasn't packed correctly, at least on the shipping cost.
As far as fixing it, I'd recommend Testor's Liquid Cement - it is my go-to for repairing my trains' plastic parts, and works great, and dries completely clear. You can pick up a small bottle at WalMart for under $5.

| That looks repairable. The two things you have going for you are that you have all the pieces (and with relatively clean breaks by the looks of it), and if you need to do any paint touch-ups it's just black paint. Use a tooth pick along with either CA or model cement, and take your time.
