I've had this beauty of a Tyco C&O shell sitting around for years. The only issue (other than the missing driveline) was the four broken ladders. I took a stab at 3D printing a set of ladders today. The profile is pretty close to the originals. Once I match the paint a little better they should blend right in.
Dialing in the print settings.
Grafted to the engine.
The closest shade of paint I had on hand. Front ladder is original for comparison.

Question: can you use your 3-D printer to print copies of Tyco's horn-hook coupler, in black?

I'm not sure if my current printer has the resolution to properly create the little spring-loaded tail. It might. It would certainly be possible on a resin printer (something I intend to buy eventually). Now I'm curious. Printing in black is no problem either. I may have to try this.

| Same as above, a resin printer could do it. I don't think my printer could capture all the fine details properly. Another couple years though, and I think we'll have sources for some of these out-of-production parts.

| Honestly man, and maybe I'm wrong, but it would not surprise me if in 5 years you could buy a good 3D scanner and 3D printer for a few hundred dollars. There would be limitations, but I don't think Star Trek replicators are too far off.
