At a recent train show I found the following item in a junk bin....

Obviously it is a flywheel meant to be concealed inside a box car,
it would be powered by a missing belt that would be driven by the
car's rotating axles....

There is no makers mark to be found on the underframe...

Does anyone know who made this car, what it looked like complete, and
how it was supposed to be used?

As the link mentions, it was called the Drifter and it was made by NWSL. Here is mine:

I would like to get my "Drifter" operational again, what do you recommend that I use for drive belt replacements?

They appear to be O-rings.
I'm guessing 1 to 1.25 inch diameter.
I'd measure.
Don't take my word for it.
