Does anyone know about this SP F7 or F9? It looks like it's either a Tyco or Mantua release but it seems to be super rare. I like the gothic lettering on this particular loco. I know that Tyco used gothic on their SP GP20, but I've only seen this F unit once and I'm kicking myself for not getting it.

FP9 if ya wanna get technical. I was told they're really a FP9 by the diesel experts.

I thought the FP9's were a bit longer, to accommodate the extra steam heater generator thing. This just looks like a normal F9.
Look how long the tank space is underneath in this picture of an FP9 compared to the model. The FP9's also had those two ditch lights, I think.

I would guess that is a later Mantua F9A....just curious, were there any other photos from the seller?

FP9s were 4 feet longer to accommodate the steam equipment as stated.
Easy way to tell the difference between a F7 and F9 is the F7s have radiator grills behind the first porthole. The F9 have a radiator grill in front of the first porthole.
Hard to see that in the photo.

No other photos. It was on eBay quite a while ago, I'd say over a year. I forget when I grabbed the photo.

I think it is repainted from a previous roadname. The SP graphics seem to be too small and low on the loco. Just a guess though. The engine is probably a Mantua or Life Like.

A repaint is a good guess. I also wonder if Mantua would have painted that silver on the side grills. The more I think about it, the more I agree that this must have been a repaint.
As far as the loco, I'm sure it is a Mantua and not a Life Like. The longer trucks and the protruding headlight sure look like Mantua/Tyco to me. Also, Life Like actually had a version of a grey and scarlet SP F7, but theirs had funny stretched lettering. Here is an example:

Ah...oh well. I still will bet that it is a later-Mantua F9A, as photos of those F's are pretty scarce. I didn't even know that Mantua made Northern Pacific RR F9's, until I found a pair at the Train Store over a year ago. No longer mine though.
