Just been preparing and testing the Combined Tyco US-1 and HO train display that I am taking to the Train Collectors Society event in Leicester, England this Saturday. Great fun to do, sorting through the stuff, checking it over, setting up the layout on the floor twice - once to draw the track plan, the second time to wire it all up and test everything.
I am going for something simpler than I normally do, with just one two lane roadway circuit intersected twice at two automated Grade (Level) Crossings. I have built in 15 junctions for almost every accessory in the US-1 series and the idea is for us to be able to demonstrate how the various loading and unloading functions work.
Details of the show (for thos ein the UK) can be found here: http://traincollectors.co.uk/event/2018-agm-spring-event
Getting the Tyco and Life-Like Trains out has reminded me that on 19th and 20th May a much bigger display is going to the Slot Car Festival at Gaydon, Warwickshire, England - Details here: https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/events/slot-car-festival
This will be a much bigger layout with both high and low level roadway circuits, it is derrived from the layout we did at the Train Collectors Society event at Leicester in November 2014: http://traincollectors.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/ZF-3.jpg
http://traincollectors.co.uk/tcs-2014-leicester-get-together This time we are going to leave out the single circuit of Faller AMS just to make it more manageable.
I am still looking to get more helpers so if you are a US-1 enthusiast in the UK and fancy spending a day or two at the wonderful British Motor Museum in Gaydon, please get in touch ASAP!
Sadly I was obliged to miss last year's Gaydon show after my 'break dancing incident with a ladder', but hopefully nothing will stop me going this year!

Link #3 shows a really nifty layout. Wish I could be there in person to view from every angle.

Guys,
Thanks for the kind comments. There is a video of that layout, which I have posted before.
If you have not seen it - Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71_aiI34mAQ
If you have seen it already, apologies.
I will have a video of the layout we did Saturday soon. In the meantime here is another layoyut from Saturday's show which I hope you will enjoy. This was put on by my chum Les Martin with help from others.
It is a combination of Tri-ang Trancontinental, which was essentially HO, together with buildings from KIBRI and Airfix. The figures are mostly Airfix too. Can't recall who made the cacti!

The mountains are my favourite part. These are a combination of original and copies of the cardboard mountains supplied with the 1/32nd scale Airfix Motor Racing/MotorAce Monte Carlo Rally set. This was current from the early 60s into the late 70s, but is surprisingly rare!
I hope you enjoy!

Well, just home from a lovely weekend at the UK National Motor Museum at Gaydon. This is the Venue for the annual Slot Car Festival where people exhibit, sell, play and dicuss Slot Cars.
As this is the UK most of the Slot cars were 1/32 scale Scalextric, but there were rare vintage 1/24th Scale Scalextric running too, Wrenn Formula 152, VIP, 1/43 scale, also Carrera and several HO layouts, one running T jets and three others running the unique British Minic Motorways system.
Doug Passell, Rod Hannah and I were there with the Life-Like trains and Building and US=1. Doug also brought a very interesting display of all US-1 trcks together with US-1 related items in the TCR and mainstream Tyco ranges.
Here are a couple of images to start us off. Hope more will follow:
Here is the bare bones of the layout as we set up
Here is the dressed and complete layout after opening. Who is the guy with the large tummy in the green top? Oh, it's me!
The layout is my usual one with two vehicles and a train running on each of two levels. On the lower level the US-1 vehicles interact with the train at two automated grade crossings. Here the trains causes the traffic to stop and operate the flashing wig wag and the bell! There is also a stop go colour light signal under customer control on the lower circuit at the front. The train will slow and stop satisfyingly when the buttons are pressed and start sensibly!
During the show we demonstrated loading and unloading pipes, logs, barrells, Gravel (mung beans), crates and cars. Oh yes and people loved the airport!
Doug who is a real slot car expert also encouraged me to tweak some of my slower poor performing vehicles, by totally stripping them. I have now collected enough human hair to make a wig and those vehicles are suddenly able to travel at spomething approaching light speed, if i want!
The key thing to remove is the weight over the worm gear. (This is the pivot point on tractors) If you get inside that you will be shocked by what you find has accumulated there over the years! - Thanks Doug!
Thanks to Doug for the images. Sorry Chops, that is all I have right now. Sorry about the delay in getting this done - I forgot about the issue with dots and dashes in the title when posting!
Doug may have more images to post. I am going to try yo sign him up as a member!
