I just purchase a box lot of HO train accessories at a auction. Among other things there were 4 pieces in individual boxes of Silvine automatic trip track NO. 4118. The track is 9" long with 2 screws on one side of the track for electrical hook up. There are no instructions I can't post pics of them because I can't get my camera to focus correctly. I was wandering if anyone knew what these tracks were for and how to use them. Yardmaster 54

At last, pics of the above mentioned track. Any ideas on what it is used for? Yardmaster 54

Sounds like it is probably a 'push to make' type switch, like a doorbell switch on a house. Weight activated by trains as has been suggested by others.
I suggest that to test it just wire up a bulb with that in the circuit on one side of the supply and then try running various locos and stock over it to see how the bulb reacts to lighter and heavier items.
Loads of makes in 00/HO had this sort of thing in the 60s, but dare I suggest that none work as well or as positively as a reed mounted in the track being activated by a magnet under the loco, or the leading item of stock.
I have used the latter widely on many makes since the 1980s and I would not want to go back....

basically it is a normally off SPST button that is triggered by the weight of rolling stock moving over it. Proudly keeping Tyco Pluggers out of landfills since 2016
