I love the centuries and just got this engine a few days ago, but it shudders going forward afford only goes very slow at full power in reverse. It's a beautiful engine otherwise, so how do I get it working?

Sounds like time to tear it down, clean and lube it.

Your not being rude at all. Many people who come to this forum say similar things. I am certain all here are thinking, What the heck does it look like. * We are very photo oriented here, and like to see what we are talking about. It helps a lot. frank

Since I'm a steamer modeller, maybe some of you diesel experts could give him a hand on the dis-assembly? I've never worked with the Roco/AHM/Rivarossi diesels and know very little about them. Your symptoms are the same as when my steamers need a good cleaning and re-lubing.

I believe on this model, the shell splits at the catwalk. There should be a tab at the front and back of the engine, and the whole center shell lifts off the frame, leaving the catwalk and railings behind. YOu may hvae to move the trucks aside to see the locking tabs. prying carefully with a flat blade screwdriver should move the tab enough to lift the shell off, one end at a time, don't severely lift one end too much, or you can break the other tab.

Not quite sure what you want to do with them? Totally remove them? I don't have that exact model, but a similar one. Trucks have tabs that hold them in, you'll have to remove the weights to see that. The tabs on mine are on a clip, you pull the clip out, the whole truck falls out the bottom.

-bump-
So i have tested it and found that that ball of copper seems to be a uncovered motor... the original owner leaves it fine except for that... So if i wind it a bit with my finger, it goes backwards good for a few seconds and then stops. Is the fact that it seems to not be wound in that direction the problem?
