Nope not going to be scraped. It was saved from the scrapers.

I'm likin' the steel mill, and that low angle shot is pretty cool!

That looks amazing! Your track work is quite impressive (to me anyway). I especially like the weathering job on the rails in the mill, and your ballasting looks great.

Astonishing work. Love the diamond crossing and the "saved" iron lady. Great photography and lighting, please keep us updated or just give us different angles on this masterpiece.

That's actually very nice equipment you've got there. What are you going to do with the "saved from scrap" engine?

Looks to me like you know your way around a steel mill Don. Very enjoyable viewing your work and it looks to be quite fun to run trains on that layout.

At first I was going to use the steam locomotive for a stationary loco to supply steam to one of the buildings in my steel mill, but after talk it will be restored to operating conditions when the funds are gotten.
Here is a few more pictures of the steel mill.

*** Well Don you have defiantly exceeded the word interesting in this Industrial layout. I really like the busyness of the scene you've created. I like also the mixed use of locomotives from other countries lightly scattered around the industries. Most are mainly North American road diesels. I dont know their names or types other then 0-B-0, ( a 6 wheel British diesel,) maybe Tri-Ang, and a 0-A-0 (a 4 wheel small industrial diesel switcher) maybe Rivarossi. With EMD, Alco, FM and Baldwin diesels mixed throughout the scene, with various smaller diesels, interest grows. Are the newly painted pair of L&N Alco C-420's Lima MRC units, or the newer Rivarossi diesels? ** In the last photo of the first set of photos that you started the topic with is tucked away on the furthest yard track is the roofline and rear of a orange painted Alco RSD 5-7. My guess is that it is a old Gilbert diesel that just doesn't want to die, or got a rebuild. Unless you repaint a Broadway Limited or old brass one. I have experienced the longevity of the Gilbert RSD5 and also run them without handrails. frank

Thank you. I have a variety of locomotives on the layout. I do a lot of scratch building on locomotives also. The Alco units are Atlas RS-32 from the trainman line. The other unit is a Broadway Limited RSD-15.

2 words to describe this mill: Freaking awesome. This is just amazing! I mean, come ON. You can't beat a good steel mill scene. This just rocks, Don! Keep it up, man! Great work!
I'm home schooled, I love to work on cars and anything with an engine and wheels, I love model RR'ing, and listening to Dire Straits.

You are right that is a Matchbox locomotive that I found at a yard sale a while ago. I remove the rivets that held the bottom on replace the bottom with a pieces styrene that I had cut a hole in to be able to stick a N scale 3 axle switch mechanism in. Still alot to do to it but it is a start.
In this like is more pictures of what i did to build the HOn30 switcher.
