What components are needed for the valve gear on the 0-4-0? I own one with it but they seem rare anymore. Ihhave a set of 4-6-2 and 2-8-2 valve gears.

Here's a link to the valve gear instruction which include part numbers.
http://www.hoseeker.net/mantuainstructions/mantua754valvegearassembly.jpg
It looks as though the only parts common to the Pacific and Mikado are the 8458 eccentric cranks and the 8459 eccentric rods (from the Pacific) used for the 0-4-0.
And the 8449 eccentric rods (from the Mikado) used for the 0-6-0 and 2-6-2.
And the 8351 rivets, 6390 shouldered bushing and 7165 crank pin bolt.

Not the same as the 0-6-0T and 0-4-0's. Wheel base is different

I did cross reference the numbers. No luck! Wish I had skills to make parts from scratch.

You can get lucky and find an engine with valve gear on ebay for a decent price. I got 2 of them that way. I have noticed that there are always multiple bids on engines with valve gear over the last 2 years or so. Good luck.

I've got one 0-4-0 with the valve gear. I'll wait and search for more. Always wanted the Mantua tank engines with the valve gear.
