some shop work
rebuilt my scratchbuilt 0-4-0T Folsom Prison #1's cylinder casting to more prototypically accurate appearance. New metal valve seat covers and new metal cylinder casting neck. Side note the glue dried to clear. all looks good
i've been known to build excursion cars. Built them out of anything, coaches, flat cars, gondolas, even scratch. For this one i took the frame of a roundhouse shorty overton coach and the braces are from an odl western bachmann flatcar that i cut to proportionate sizes. The bench i made out of wood. The car is done. just need to paint the bench
here we see the new excursion car on the right and the excursion car on the left is one i made from an old tyco balance car
two Penn line D2 whitcombs i fully restored mechanically. New lead motor wires for both, fully cleaned wheels and contacts, repaired bearings and they run like absolute dreams

recently redid the back portion of the layout by the controller. nice and clean

I see that you're way more into scenery than I remember in the past. It looks good, and your equipment looks good rolling through it.

I really like that trestle, Hyde. I'll be the crew can feel the spray. Was that from a kit or scratchbuilt?
The little saddle tanker looks great.

Thanks guys. Appreciate it! Trestle I bought fully built off a craigslist add for only $10. And I had to chop off a LOT of it to get it to what it is now. Was very long and very wide. Trimmed down perfectly.

bought a Roundhouse SP 4-6-0 kit for $50 yesterday. slowly assembled it till i texted my brother and he said he wanted it done by wedneday (tomorrow) so today i fully built the tender and the main rods and am getting it together. Tomorrow il drop the motor in it, make it run and go from there. He wants to have fun with it so i decided not to paint anything till after Christmas.

Your layout seems to be coming along really sweet, I must say.So this is what you've been doing for the past month or so.

More stuff to show
christmas present. Hornby (Rivarossi) USATC 0-6-0T Granite Rock 10
granite 10 on my new walthers 90' turntable that i built and installed on the layout many weeks ago, replacing my atlas one. Been a nightmare wiring this walthers table because they expect you to buy the motor to power the rail on the turntable bridge. i proved them wrong and will be making a special hand crank system in due time.
roundhouse SP 4-6-0 looks true blue SP now with the cal scale brass headlight and proper placement.
cabeese
two favorite 0-6-0Ts

Lucky dog, getting one of those Rivarossi 0-6-0T's for Christmas. I think Ken posted about them before they issued them for the US market. How's she run?

Oh, the prototype for your 0-6-0 Granite Rock locomotive is actually in existence and appears to be under restoration as of now. Nice loco.

Nelson, she runs incredible. Smooth, slow, very quiet, runs anywhere I need it to.
Yes the real granite rock 10 survives at the California state railroad museum in Sacramento. It went down for what is know as it's 1472 day inspection about 3 years ago. Needed almost a full new firebox. All that's left is staybolts then reassembly. I work on steam locomotives so to some this language might seem confusing.

Thanks. I work on them, too, so it's slightly less confusing. Putting in staybolts seems like a dreadful prospect. There are oh so many and it can't be easy lining them up to both holes.

more new stuff!
been trying to finish up some of my final layout big projects so cleaned out the town the other day and added woodland scenics black gravel to give a nice clean look! gonna add streetlights next
for about the last two weeks i've been building up my new turntable area. all i have left is adding another roundhouse next to the current, and one more track off the turntable
put up a fence separating the diesel servicing tracks and the water tower track from the town. still publicly viewable though!
new athearn reefer i bought. love the colors!
bought this roundhouse tanker kit for only $8 yesterday. not sure if many are familiar with this, but these were supposed to represent some of the first tank cars. the frame was essentially a log car, and the trucks with the frame in my mind were absolutely ugly together. So took an old bluebox athearn tank car frame, cut out the excess length, put it all together and i couldnt be happier!

I have seen pictures of prototype tankers like the Roundhouse one with the huge frame under the small tank, so it is a prototypical look but aesthetically, I really like what you've done with putting a more normal frame under yours.

Oh, yeah, that one. I think he said once he and his dad painted it like that although I'm not totally sure.A lot of nice engines in those photos, though.
