I picked a train lot up off the Bay last week for relatively cheap. The only thing I really wanted were the Tyco F7's...I don't think I even looked at the other pictures before bidding. Anyway, the lot got here today and it turns out all the cars are Tyco/Mantua. There's even a matching PC caboose! I'll have to go through HOSeekers catalogs and see if this is a factory set.

The engine bodies are in excellent shape and should clean up nicely. Everything else looks salvageable, although I'm not sure what to do with the freight cars yet.

The powered engine is missing a coupler, horn, and a truck frame. All the ladders are intact on both engines though, that's the important part.

Great set! Love the paint scheme.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Keep it that way; it's Penn central, after all. Knock the wheels out of gauge so it derails a lot, too.

After some digging it appears that my new set started life as a 1971 Twin Diesel Freight

Nice set. I am sure you can find the parts you need on the cheap.

Hey WKS, yup, that's the definition of a basic Tyco set. A fun, colourful lot!

There should already be some spare sideframes kicking around here, Chops. I know I still have this set, but I can't remember if I ever fixed it.
