Peddling under speed in the high deserts of Texas under imaginary catenary. Suppose I could do the "Gumby" thing and advance the catenary a little at a time. EC60 is nicely double motored, so while somewhat light, it has six axles of pull. The pantographs are made of the cheapest "chrome" plated plastic I have seen since the Soviet era, and somehow are still intact.

I notice a sotol plant plant next to the locomotive.

Quoth Wikipedia: Sotol is a distilled spirit made from the Dasylirion wheeleri (commonly known as Desert Spoon or, in Spanish, sotol), a plant that grows in northern Mexico, New Mexico, west Texas, and the Texas Hill Country.

Perhaps this provides a partial explanation of how we come to imagine that catenary where there is none.

But there is, or at least until recently was, catenary in Texas at Martin Lake. Check this out (scroll down to #5).

The E25B looks like it could be easily kitbashed.

Or not far away in Arizona, the Black mesa and Lake Powell with its E60C-2's. I just got the pantograph for my American GK one back from a friend today... somehow he was able to get that little contraption back working again.

By the way, Shaygetz, this is what became of those really cool Amtrak cars you traded me for. As you can see, they have been put to revenue service without delay. Enjoying them muchly, hope the hoppers and flat is working well for you.

Very nice picture and train set! Like-Like passenger trains aren't something that are seen very often on nicely landscaped layouts. It looks good!
