I also have 3 new cars to add to the list.
My first Ping Pong American Flyer plastic passenger car. New haven 135. I still need at least one more of these and a Ping Pong combine. I got this for fifteen bucks also. The car is in good shape. Only needs couplers.

** Now my last new find is a New Haven flat car #33527. This is another one of the large metal cars. It may be the only one painted black. All the others are a light red. I don't have or know yet what the load should have been. My bell of the Eighties was handy, so it became the load for the photo.

Hi Frank,
There were 3 black flatcars made. The 33527 NEW HAVEN flat carried a load of 6 pieces of lumber and also came with 10 stakes.
There also is a 33545 National Car Company flat with a Bordens Milk container and also a 33546 Illinois Central flat with a Jet Engine Transport container.
Also, yes, they did make a 33524 Morrell reefer.

* Well, things do happen at train shows. At my last Timonium Maryland train show, a couple was there sell trains. They had 2 Gilbert 0-6-0's at a low price each. One was B&O 31019 and the other B&O 31031. I did not just pass them by, even though I had both already. I do have doubles now. I never expected to get a second 31019.
* Here is a few photos of them with 19 on the turntable and entrance tracks. #31! is on the first roundhouse track.

it for storage of the 4-6-4. That would make it unique. I've seen kits for the Tank, reefer, gondola, and the caboose. All the old metal cars. I think, not sure, the passenger cars were made in kits also. It only makes sense that the Hudson would also be offered as a kit.

edit: I have seen the catalog showing the old passenger cars as kits. It is the 1938 catalog on page 10. HO-9 is the Coach and HO-14 is the Baggage-Mail car. sorry for the late editing.

| Hey Frank, HOseeker has an instruction sheet for a Gilbert Hudson kit that I used to tear down and service this engine. Being it was custom painted and seemed to match the instructions I assumed it was a kit, but it may just be a standard engine someone repainted. A nice engine regardless. Unfortunately it did not come with its original box.

Eric, they had kits for many of their first run of cars. Why not the Hudson. I just looked and found assembly instructions for a Gilbert Hudson.

The American Flyer HO Kits were produced from 1938 to 1942.
The Hudsons were 6 volts.

I should have been more clear in my post. The pre-war American Flyer Hudson came with an AC motor. The Hudson could be converted to DC by using a permanent magnet marketed by Quaker City or a conversion kit made by Mantua.

Some nice additions to your collection. The plastic NH cars are some of my favorites. A little polish on the roofs makes them look so nice going around.
A quick correction while I'm here. The L-3003 Santa Fe was cataloged as part of set 30705 in 1962. The 30705 set from 1961 contained the 31025 C&O diesel. Somewhere in this forum i have a post showing pics of most of the diesels and some variations.

No that is a tank car I had redone. When I got it, it's original finish was shot, all messed up. So I refinished it. Did you know that the lowest catalog numbers in Gilbert HO are, single digit? They are for the first cars released. Sold as kits you could make any way you wanted. Any road name. Of course, you would have to use your own decals.

They were per WW2 offerings. The catalog pages are in HOseeker. Look in the 1938 catalog the catalog numbers have an HO perfect. HO 1 through HO-11. They cover the Hudson, all die-cast cars, Passenger and freight. Also three train sets, all Hudson Powered.

I received this adorable Gilbert industrial switcher a little while ago. Just got around to taking a photo of it for the forum. It's the later one (made in about 1960 according to the Gilbert HO online resource) without the little counterweight on the back (although the slot for it is still there). It runs much better than I expected when I purchased it, frankly. A very reliable and cute little switcher.Surprisingly heavy for its size to with that big zamac shell.

I was finally able to get my hands on an American Flyer HO Hudson after trying to find one for a decent price for a long time. This old girl is (according to the Gilbert HO online resource) from around 1955 (possibly 1956, as apparently some have shown up with 1956 dates on them). After a bit of work, she runs quite nicely, although the "Choo Choo" gear makes a somewhat obnoxious static-like noise. However, it has improved as the loco runs, and the "Choo Choo" is actually starting to work properly again as of the last time I ran it (last night). Got it for about $100 from a guy who was helping to liquidate a collection from the original owner who has dementia. Very happy to finally have one of these engines, though!

Haven't really had the chance to check that out yet, but the smoke unit seems to be in very good shape (fairly clean, wires look okay, no deterioration as far as I can tell). The current draw when the loco is running is pretty typical for engines from this era (kinda high by modern standards). I did have to superglue one of the wheel rims back onto the white wall when I initially got it, but since I did that, it's been fine.I've had to do similar things with some of my old Wrenn locos when I first got them. Thankfully, it was a lot easier to do with this loco than it was for the Wrenn locos, funnily enough (probably because the Wrenn wheels actually came off of the axles, so I also had to glue that into place).
Update: She smokes beautifully!
