Well I have the cars lettered for the Baltinore and Ohio RR. First pick up a Testors dull-coat and coat these cars to dull and darken the cars. Next find if I have them some bottoms for the HObbylines cars and truchs and couplers for them. frank

Alex whenever you see the HObbyline kit car adds or on ebay the 0-4-0t is usually there. HObbyline released the New York Central 0-4-0t in ready to run in 1956. I say that because it is the first time it appears in any catalog of HObbyline or train stores. In 1957 they released the it again this time in Union Pacific RR. I think this is the years the kits were released. frank

Here you see a Lehigh Valley passenger train at the Rockport station. It has 1 Combine and a Daycoach. My recently acquired HObbyline B&O Alco FA-1 is seen nosing past the stopped train. One more Daycoach for the Lehigh Valley train set and I will have set #411 The Wall Street.
Here you can the expanded view showing the B&O combine. That makes 2 original pieces to set 462, I still need 4 more.

Thanks for asking. I am just stumbling with the wiring of the layout. Can't get it done. Maybe admitting this will help move me to get it all running so I can move on to other finishing details. frank

I hate wiring also. Just not my cup of tea. Still, we love to see your Dawn of HO collection running. Just remember to insulate the inner rails of any power directing turnout, that faces its opposite.

With the addition of an H12-44 body in C&O, I now can make using a rebuilt H12-44 drive a running C&O version. Here is the C&O set 421 "The Whistle Stopper" using the same cars that are seen in a 1955 catalog. As you can see this loco has quite a bit of playtime showing in its scuffed up blue.
As seen in the third photo I have added a HObbyline box car as many modelers back in the day would have done. In 1953 all you had made by HObbyline were the box car, gondola car, and flat car. In 1954 the tank car was added, In 1955 the Hopper car is added completed the 5 freight cars made by HObbyline. frank

Above the B&O set seen still is lacking completion. Some of the cars have original trucks but are from streamlined sets and are silver. On the last two cars, they are not HObbyline trucks or even trucks of the same type. Here is the completed set with all matching trucks. frank

Thank you, Jeff. I finally got a 1953 catalog that came with a 1953 set #1. I should get it before the end of next week. The PRR FM H12-44 has no drive, just some parts It has a good body. I have a good spare to go with the set and a few different flat cars to choose from to replace the missing one. frank

Yep, Jeff, that's the way it is when you collect trains from the 1950s. These trains were made when the railroads they represent were still running. The decorative passenger trains English made for the Pennsy, Up, Wp, LV, and Erie were still out there going to their many destinations. frank

Came with the original box and 1953 catalog.

That is off the charts HO cooldom. First thing out of my mouth was, ‘oh man!’ That corresponds to the post war years when the big manufacturers were trying desperately to horn in on diesel the road switcher market. Frank, we’d love a little video of this set polishing the rails.

Google search had a little blurb about design elements initially designed by Raymond Loews, of GG1 fame, were left off to save money. Also louvers were added to reduce chance of battery explosions. Wonder how often that happened?

I do know the H10-44 has streamlined parts, perhaps those were the parts removed on the H12? That's mega interesting. That's a good candidate for a future episode revolving around Fairbanks for my series.

I made a new video of HObbylines C&O H12-44 with some freight cars. A new yellow rare tank car is seen here for the first time. I have the C&O H12 with a proper caboose. Both have yellow lettering. I used my phone's camera to make this video and I am surprised at how clear and sharp the video is. About the Conoco tank car, it is seen 2 times in the 1954 catalog on page 5 then page 7. In the 1956 plus power dealers catalog, the CONOCO can is seen 4 times. Once on each page 2,3, and twice on page 4. frank

Yep, it runs on my test track. The control panel I made was a flop because of its location. Got to do something else, and put it someplace else. As to the fiber tie track, yes I still use it. Still, after 40 years I am looking for problems with it. frank

Chops I've been lucky. Still looking for some ready to run tanks cars to replace the kit cars in the collection. The DOW, Shell, Mobilgas, and Monsanto are all kit cars I put together. Don't know if ready to run versions were available. Mobil is seen in 1954-55 so it has a ready to run version. The other 3 are all 1957 kits. frank
