While searching thru my train stuff I had in my attic for about 30 years, I came across this Athearn Switcher. I greased the gears and lubed where necessary. This engine runs smooth and runs smooth at low speeds. It is missing all the hand rails and I am searching the interned for them. If anyone has any and would part with them, I would appreciate a heads up.

That's a SW7, not a SW1500.

If you can find a pattern, you can make your own easily. IF I remember correctly, the SW-7 does not use stanchions. It's just a matter of bending some wire. I know, you need handrails to use for a pattern.
Maybe this source has them:

I think Walthers sells a set.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

My bad, some one on another forum said it was an SW/1500. It does use the stanchions.

Athearn incorrectly launched these as "SW1500" in 1966 - EMD had run a multi page ad in trade publications (Trains Mag being one) and used concept drawings advertising the new line of 645 powered locomotives. Irv incorrectly figured via a said concept drawing within the ad that the SW1500 would have the older switcher body - which of course it ultimately didnt. Trains had also done an article on cow and calf switchers in the Jan 1965 issue which is why Irv produced said model in cow and calf forms. The model was introduced in march 1966 - the first SW1500 was built in June. It is truly an SW7 or TR4 for the cow/calf model. Athearn officially redesignated them as SW7's in 1990 when the "true" SW1500 was launched. So you will find them in boxes labled as SW1500 or SW7 depending on when they were made. Athearn discontinued them in 2002.

That's definitely a nice one.I'd like to find myself one of those at a train show someday.

Here is mine with the handrails....

Which are the same as the SW1...

Hopefully, if you can't find them, you will have an idea how they need to be bent.

They're doing a great job so far....
EVERYTHING'S "Limited Production" now! Because they're SURE that ALL MRR'ers want overpriced RTRs ONLY. They're certain that we hate all kits!
"New Athearn" went from simple, rugged and affordable - to overcomplicated, fragile and anything BUT affordable!!
Ol' Irv is rolling over in his grave....
