I got a American Flyer 0-6-0 #433. Anyways, I got a motor from a much later 0-6-0 similar to the motor in my #31031. It needs to be shimmed some how. What can I do to get the motor shimmed up correctly?

There are several materials you can use. It mostly depends on what you have the ability to work with. I would use brass sheet metal. Craft stores and hobby shops usually carry some.

Then there is Evergreen styrene sheet. It's easy to cut to shape with an Xacto blade.

I've used scrap aluminum sheet and even a piece of note card.

The most difficult part is determining exactly how much to shim. This is mostly trial and error.
Some dial calipers will help to get an exact measurement.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

...like he said, I use old credit cards myself. I cannot emphasis the usefullness of a good pair of vernier calipers if you're going to work on them at this level, you can get them at Home Depot.

Thanks guys! I was gonna use a feeler gauge and fine tune the motor to where it meshes correctly and runs well and not hot and jammed! The shim I need to make has to be a v-shaped piece or a wedge type shim.
