For the longest time I've been wanting interurban service on my railroad, and to that end I recently completed a box motor. It started with a Penn Line baggage car to which I added 3d-printed ends and a pantograph platform. I kitbashed a chassis from an Athearn switcher. I use Märklin catenary that I inherited from my dad's collection. The coach that it pulls is unpowered even though it also has a pantograph. Eventually I'll add a combine too.

My inspiration is the Red Electric cars that ran in Portland in the 1920s and eventually ended up on the Pacific Electric.

I installed a Zen Black DCC controller and a couple of automatic braking circuits in the tracks. The Zen Black has a shuttle mode that automatically stops and reverses the train and it works remarkably well. I can just turn the unit on and it shuttles back and forth all by itself.
