A Bachmann piece, fortunately a good runner. The UP says only the US Navy burns more diesel annually than they do. The refueling depot in Santa Teresa, NM is a vast complex. So I wonder, at what point does the density level become cheaper to run your mainline freight under wire??? Or is this offset by having to maintain two fleets: diesel for yard work and pick up and delivery plus your electroliners?

Well it depends on how many electric powered trains you want fouling the mains. We just learned you can't run a city on renewables.
But to return to the spirit of your post here is a Bachmann E-60 sitting on an Athearn U-33C frame.
The secret is to saw the frame apart- and that is no easy even with an industrial cut-off wheel, and add a chunk of wood to stretch out the frame and make a longer drive shaft, and you have a sweet-running, powerful E-60 to move your passenger train almost as smartly as with a GG-1.
And I apologize if this is a repost, but here it is shaking hands with it's Penn Central brother made by American-GK.

My LOTW will be my Tyco Santa Fe GP20.
This unit broke my lucky streak with Tyco. I went to run this unit at random one day while I was stretching the legs on some of my units. It started out fine but then all of a sudden the light went out and smoke started pouring smoke out. It stayed that way for a while until last weekend, when I tore it down. Sure enough the motor had oil in it. I don't recall if that was my doing or not. Either way I rebuilt it with a fresh motor block and Armature, and got the unit running well again.

El Rojo Grande strikes again! I don't believe I ever saw the original post, and those are two mega cool electrics. Ever since I saw one of the last active G's in 1975 on the Northeast Corridor, hauling a dog train at some insane speed, I have been smitten with all electric locomotives. Stick a pantograph on it and I'm crazy for it.
Classic ATSF Geep, very nice.

The composition on that shot is really nice. For an HO model, the shot gives it proper heft!
