You can also look at the products online, too. Look up "Lionel HO", and the first link should be for Trainworld. Click on that, and it should take you to the stuff Lionel is selling. Here's the link, anyway, though. [url]https://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/lionel-trains/lionel-ho-scale//[url] If you look at a lot of their rolling stock (particularly their freight cars), they are literally just Model Power rolling stock. I wonder if whoever the supplier for Model Power is made a deal with Lionel to help produce HO stuff?

Lionel bought some Model Power tooling.

http://www.lionel.com/articles/Lionel-Trains-Model-Power-Announcement/

So it's the same old Model Power stuff, with a Lionel brand on it now. No doubt you'll pay more for the brand.

That's interesting. Would be neat to compare the Model Power products with the Lionel ones.

Apparently what happened is that when Model Power shut down along with Mantua, all their remaining rolling stock dies were sold to Lionel. There is some speculation that Lionel may have... encouraged them to abruptly close up shop a couple years ago so that the dies could be purchased in order to spin up production for another Lionel HO line. With the same tired old models in silly paint schemes at higher prices than ever, I can't imagine this line will sell well... didn't they learn their lesson the last, what, three times they tried to do HO?

It was certainly a bit of a jarring surprise to first hear about this new line by seeing their whole 14-page catalog crammed into a couple months' ago's issue of Model Railroader as a center-insert advertisement! The rumor mill has been flying ever since.

yeah its like when IHC took over the Tyco line
Prices went nearly triple from $10 to nearly $40+ for the Center Street buildings!
they wondered why nothing sold & went bankrupt later

maybe I want the silly schemes on the double tank cars!

They are using the molds from the OLD MARX HO trains that most recently Model Power also used.
should we call them Marx-Lionel, or Lionel-Marx?
