Yes, sympathies to those affected by this and all senseless violent events all around the world. What does it take to get this to stop?

It is sad since he seemed healthy just two months ago.
He was at his store during the busy times at Christmas.
He became ill late December and went to the hospital.
Called a few times and his co-workers thought he would get better.
Unfortunately that was not the case.

They did say he tested negative from the virus.
I last saw him in person at the Clark New Jersey show and days later at his store.

That was back in March 2020 before the pandemic shut things down.

I did go to the store in late October but he was off that day.
I was going to see him last month but found out he was ill.

Very nice man and sad to see him gone.

The store should be okay for the near future since they still get brisk business.
The co-owner and staff care too much about their friendly business to see it disappear.

If that's who I think it is, he was very active on Tyco Depot. His railroad was called the BC&E, and he loved to run it with his son. I always enjoyed his videos and photos.

She did have a bit of train travel in her life time.
Including a ride using equipment from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

"Staten Island New York on Monday October 21 1957.

The North Shore rail line once a major transportation artery on Staten Island, had been closed for four years.

But some very special passengers had need of the railroad, so the line was re-opened for one final journey.

Those passengers? Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip died last week at the age of 99. As the world mourns and looks to his funeral this Saturday, Staten Islanders can look back at that time when the queen and her husband visited our shores, if only briefly.

Queen Elizabeth II had been crowned four years earlier, following the death of her father, King George VI.

Just 31 years old, Elizabeth was making her first visit to the United States as queen.

Arriving on Oct. 17, the monarch visited President Dwight D. Eisenhower for a state dinner at the White House in Washington, D.C., and also toured Jamestown, Va., where she helped celebrate the 350th anniversary of its founding as the first English settlement in the Americas.

The queen’s next stop was New York City, which included her train trip across the North Shore of Staten Island.

The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, which owned the rail line, re-opened the railway for the queen’s journey. It was a B&O engine that brought the queen’s train from Washington to New York.

They made the connection to the borough rail link at Staten Island Junction in Cranford, N.J., and traveled over the Arthur Kill lift bridge to join the North Shore line. Apparently, Elizabeth wanted to see the New York City skyline on her journey.

North Shore residents who packed the rail route said that they saw the queen standing on a small balcony at the back of the train as it passed.

The B&O train stopped at the Staten Island Terminal facility of the Army’s New York Port of Embarkation in Stapleton.

Following that leg of the journey, the Queen and Price Philip were greeted by enthusiastic throngs as they rode in a motorcade down Bay Street toward St. George. Some Islanders recalled being given the day off from school as children so that they could catch a glimpse of the royal couple.

At St. George, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip boarded the ferryboat Lt. Samuel S. Coursen and sailed over to Manhattan, escorted by some 50 vessels, including water-spraying fireboats, on a route that took the monarch near the Statue of Liberty.

In Manhattan, the queen was feted by a ticker-tape parade through the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan and also addressed the United Nations. She was in New York City for just 14 hours.

It was the last day of Elizabeth’s first visit as queen to the United States.

And it was the last time that any passengers rode on the North Shore rail line."

I found a photo of her visit to New York.
After she got off the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad train in Staten Island.
A short car ride to the ferry boat terminal.
And a boat ride to New York City.

Definitely looks like a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad observation car.

"Queen Elizabeth with Governor William Averell Harriman of New York escorts Queen Elizabeth to her car as she arrives at Stapleton for a tour of New York City.
(1957 Press photo)

The train stopped at the Staten Island Terminal facility of the Army’s New York Port of Embarkation in Stapleton before the queen and prince rode in a motorcade down Bay Street toward St. George.

When they arrived to St. George the pair boarded the ferryboat Lt. Samuel S. Coursen and sailed over to Manhattan alongside around 50 vessels bringing the queen near the Statue of Liberty.

She was then greeted with a ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan and later spoke at the United Nations capping off her New York City trip at just 14 hours.

Queen Elizabeth II is accompanied by New York Governor William Averell Harriman.
Queen Elizabeth II prepares to begin a motorcade parade along Bay Street toward the Staten Island Ferry terminal in St. George on Monday October 21, 1957.
The queen had ridden along the old North Shore rail line earlier in the day."

I remember I was on vacation that week 21 years ago.
I received phone calls later from co-workers who wanted to see if I was safe.

One of my coworkers was married with her husband working near the World Trade Center.

He survived that day but died years later from cancer.

Of course so many people died and others still suffering physically and mentally to this day.

Here and in Washington and rural Pennsylvania.

Those responsible for those atrocities hopefully are having a toasty afterlife for eternity.

I was working a jitney for the railroad, assigned to a dogcatcher crew working west from COnway, PA. I remember the inbound crew we were to relieve taking forever working Canton yard, with the end result that our meeting point was pushed further and further west. We eventually met up with the train at Alliance, OH. After working overnight I went home for rest and woke up to the unthinkable. For the next week or so the MofW patrolled the railroad 24-7 looking for any sign of sabotage. All flights were grounded and it was eerie looking up at the sky and seeing no vapour trails from the planes.

THat said, We must also remember 4-19-93, the day of the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168. Terrorism is terrorism, whether the perps are foreign or domestic it is all evil. We have done a good job of rooting out the foreign terrorists, while letting the domestic problem fester.

Singer Loretta Lynn passed away this morning.

Scene from a movie based on her early life. Rest in peace.

Not to overshadow her death but the engine shown in the movie had a long career.
And the engine was on Blue Mountain and Reading property during the mid 1980s.
That is today's Reading and Northern Railroad.
Possible restoration attempts failed and she is now in California.
