Anybody know more about these sets? I guess Tyco did a number of them for various chains and they're all fairly scarce.

Internet search shows me one variant, PRR F7 and bobber, Stewart's reefer, Stewart's skid flat car with pipes, track, knob transformer. Red box cover.

Mine is the UP GP20 box art, Santa Fe loco & bobber, Monon gon with pipes, Stewart's reefer, and it has a slot-car controller to run it. GC-64 on the end flap.

There are at least 7 sets.

1. ? Is either Unity or Giant Open Air Market.
2. Stewarts w/ Stewart Flat Car
3. ? Is either Giant Open Air Market or Unity.
4. Genuardi / Martels
5. Thriftway Foods Inc.
6. Montco
7. Rich Foods w/ Rich Foods Flat Car

There is a Frankford Quaker Oates Flat, that goes with one of the sets.

My set is none of those, and although the box is in poor shape the contents appear to have never been out of the packaging. As noted, a Monon gondola replaces the flat car, the transformer is different, the entire box insert is different.

The set box lid will have GROCERY STORE SET #__ 1963 on it.

They came with a green PRR F7, red PRR bobber caboose, a flat car with red tubes, grocery store reefer, small Tyco power pack and a set of track.

Montco Set

http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6490&SearchTerms=Montco

It appears that Tyco produced the Stewart Set for two years. I have never seen this version. I wonder what the C stands for in "GC-64".

I have a few of these cars, but I never knew they went to a set.

GT-64

T224-D Santa Fe blue/yellow F9
T310-F Gondola with pipes Monon
T329-? Stewart's Groceries reefer
T309-F Santa Fe bobber caboose

Tyco-trol pistol grip speed control
Transformer
Circle Atlas track including terminal

All items in cardboard insert tray, no boxes

Paperwork including small catalog, warranty info, service station info, other misc sheets

Apparently all sets came with the slot car speed control for at least one year.

Box art shows UP GP20 loco in large watercolor print and one end panel also hawks Tyco slot cars.

Yes, as I said before, the set I have is NOT the pictured set. The box is different, the contents are different.

I surmise that GT-64 stands for Grocery Train 1964.

Nice collection, The Rich Food and Giant Open Air Market are the rarest. The Stewarts Grocery Products seems to be the most common of the Grocery Set Reefers.
