This is a New York Central work train. I see a version of it in the 1959 Catalog however in the catalog the locomotive is black. In this set it is orange. Is it a later variation? Rare?

Thanks
Todd

You have a very early 1959 set. The black loco was just a factory mock up for the catalog shoot. The set was not cataloged before 1959. 1959 is also, when Tyco switched from Blue Boxes to Red Boxes.

$200. isn't a kings ransom. To me it is just a high price. A new locomotive will easily cost that much, and it is only a locomotive. That is a powered work train. A lot more to it.

There is a bobber caboose that matches that train whish is a good addition. Even if it is a red one it still would look good with that set. Work trains were made up of all color equipment.

TOPTRAIN, $200 for a 60 year old TYCO is a kings ransom, it's a TYCO! How many $200 dollar TYCO's do you have in your collection? Let me answer it for you, NONE! Also, we are not talking about a newer train, I would not hesitste to spend $500 on a new locomotive and not bat an eye or consider it a kings ransom, but as stated before we are talking about a 60 year old TYCO set.

I guess it would depend on the King, as to the amount of ransom.

For this Tyco boxed set in the apparent excellent condition, from 1959....$200 seems reasonable. I've seen unboxed individual Tyco cars go for more.

I think that $200 for this set is a good deal. Early complete blue box sets are hard to find. It would make a nice centerpiece for someone's collection.

Many old TYCO set did not come with a power supply, I have several. Don't let that be the reason you don't pick up this gem.
