The crosshead guides remind me of the ones on the Bowser H9 Consolidation, as do the wheels and connecting rods. I think it's either Bowser or one of the other companies that Bowser absorbed.

Are we sure that tender and locomotive were originally together. I cannot place it but I know I have seen that tender somewhere else.

Ken, it looks an awful lot like a Southern Pacific MK-5 Mikado. But don't ask me who made it. I've only seen them produced in brass.

I believe the boiler is a Cary made piece. Also supplied by Bowser.

Hi Kenny ! It sure looks like a Cary Conversion boiler to me. Cray's Harriman standard 2-8-2 and USRA light 2-8-2 conversions were made. It doesn't look like a USRA boiler. The only one left is the Harriman. It was released in 1958 and discontinued in 1962. Cary-Bowser would have placed photos of the conversion kit in MR and MRC magazines of that period. I wonder how it would look in PGW paint. frank

Boiler definitely looks like a Cary casting. What do we know about that tender?

That boiler is a very rare one as is said here often, as it was only made for 3 years and 10 months. Seeing that the dies were destroyed in a fire in 1962, Bowser never manufactured or sold this boiler kit for they didn't acquire the Cary line until May of 1988. So Ken you have a special conversion kit there. The word RARE really does applies to it. frank
