To set the stage for this latest boon, picture a building with an LHS on the ground floor, and a roomy cellar beneath.
Now picture a landlord who wants said cellar vacated NOW. Well, by the end of October, anyway.
So this job is now done as of yesterday. But, in order to get rid of some of the bulk, I was given this pile of treasures.
/tyco/forum/uploaded/pge33/20161022140059_Old MR and other mags 12 10 16.JPG[/img (PS I already had the cat) The box of MR is almost all 1950's, which I am lacking. Box one:
Flieschmann beer car, my first. K's loco kit 0-4-4. BC Rail note pad . Want to see any more? I don't want to bore anybody.

yes as white metal kits go they are good value in 60s,but the motors let them down when compared to later motors, anything else you want to know, give me a shout, ken K's were bought by Autocom, who also bought Nu-cast & Millholme.

I really haven't any matching rolling stock. The closest I have is Tri-ang, but it's all North American types. Box 3 continued..... All-metal stock car Ulrich? Metal tank car Athearn? Troller walk-around control John English Yardbird - needs some work. Varney F3 die-cast shell CP Roco/MP FA/Shark chassis. You can NEVER have too many. RibbonRail track tools. Got quite a few more of these.

The brass Pacific in box 4 appears to be a Pre-War Mantua locomotive. The brass 4 axles chassis also appears to be Pre-War Mantua.

WAW47 The brass loco and tender are Varney for sure. They were kind enough to put the name on the bottom of each. The four axle chassis, who knows. The only part # i can find is on the steam chest. P9347 Does this help at all in identifying it? Evan

I based my comments about the brass Pacific based on the boiler. Looking closely at the picture it has a Varney chassis. The boiler looks like a Mantua. Varney did produced a Reading Wooten boiler in 1938, but it is one piece die cast. The locomotive in the picture appears to have a stamped brass engineer's cabin, making it a Mantua. As for the tender, I never commented on it.
The picture of the brass loco and tender are partially obstructed. Perhaps, you could takes separate pictures of the loco & tender.

My appologies, WAW47 I was sure I'd posted the other picture of the brass loco. And some others.
And the brass chassis, which I noticed had been assembled upside-down, three of the axles are turned insulated side right.

The brass boiler is Pre-War Mantua, probably a Consolidation boiler. The brass chassis is also Pre-War Mantua. I think at one time the brass boiler and brass chassis were married to one another.

Ben, what I have is a drop in the bucket. Quite a lot of the stuff was tossed into a dumpster!! I know, right? Eeek!! I had a quick glance inside, then made myself look away. The rest went into the store, or into a storage cube. Those things hold a lot. David sold a ton of Tri-Ang for $100 It filled the back of a Ford Ranger pickup.

After further research (or dumb luck while going through old MR's): The all metal ore car is by Selley. One of the CN aluminum cars is by American Beauty. The two "signals" are actually spotlights, which still work. They were listed by Polk Hobby, and could be Aristo-Craft. I don't know if all their stuff was listed as such. Sadly, the John English F-units are pretty much toast, Nearly everything, except the brass, is crumbling. Sigh.

I'm drooling, so many goodies, exactly the vintage stuff I love to collect. Really glad you unearthed that C&S reefer, now I know what brand mine is so I can go looking for parts. Sucks the English F-units are just about dead though, maybe you could paint them and model the SRNJ's Winslow Junction? They got 3 crumbling F-units there.
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

It's gotta be! All the paper work I have suggests the company was based in Ontario so maybe that's why we seem to be the only ones who have 'em. Alternatively, I've seen a few cars for sale listed as Mantua, OK, etc. I'd bet there are more out there but the owners don't know what they are.
I look forward to the pictures.

Pictures, as promised. in fact, there are some Mantua floors mixed in with these cars. Possibly, the previous owner was modifying them somehow. PS The last pic is of the American Beauty car. For ID purposes.
