OK, it may be kind of a stretch talking about O-scale trains on a TYCO train forum, but this is such a cool layout I see every year I had to share it! This is the train layout they have set up at the Marshfield Fair in Marshfield, MA. The layout is a permanent setup and stays in the shed all year round, except for the locomotives and rolling stock, which belong to the model railroad club that helps run it at the fair. All track appears to be steel Atlas O three-rail track, and there are a bunch of interesting accessories and buildings (lots of Plasticville, too.)
Note the Plasticville fire and police stations in the foreground, and the supermarket. The railroad crossing there has detection units for both tracks, and has flashing lights and a bell sound.
The rail yard. Of course, they have some Amtrak "Amfleet" cars and MBTA commuter rail cars, given that this is in Massachusetts (my home state.)
A carnival setup. There's a button that you push and hold down to make it light up and have the rides move. There is even an N-gauge train set up, to represent those little carnival/amusement park train rides.
This airport is a new addition to the layout; based off a local one.
An MBTA commuter train they run on the layout each year. The locomotive is a customized MTH F40PH with sound, flashing ditch lights, even an engineer figure in the cab. The cab car at the back of the train even has a figure in the cab part too! It looks a lot like the real commuter trains I usually see (though here it looks more like a North Zone train, usually the South Zone trains have bi-level cars.)
The commuter train passes through another railroad crossing equipped with flashing lights. Note the Life-Like tree next to the crossing.
The town hall is supposed to be "on fire," complete with flashing orange "firelight" inside. There are a couple of "burning" buildings on this layout.
We have this shovel accessory at the local hobby shop!
A new locomotive on the layout this year was this Amtrak F40PH, again sound-equipped, and with flashing strobe lights on the top! It sure brought back memories of seeing them at South Station in Boston as a kid. The railroad club also has a Thomas the Tank Engine dummy they sometimes put up front of other trains when they let kids control them.
Here's a neat Santa Fe caboose.
The steam-powered freight passes the MBTA train.
Quick Auto Dealers sponsored this layout, so they set up a dealership here.
The steam locomotive up front of the main freight, with smoke and sound. (My iPod Touch is a little tough at taking moving model train pics.)
The Amtrak train passes through another railroad crossing, this time with a Lionel crossing gate. At the other end of the train was a Genesis locomotive in Phase IV colors, this time it was pulling the train.
The main freight being pulled by a couple of Bangor and Aroostook diesels.
The tunnel on the layout.
The caboose on the main diesel-powered freight.
