A friend and I were catching up on our inventory of rolling stock when we came across a boxcar and 2 tankers with Hotco on them. Neither of us have heard of this brand before. Can't find much on them on the internet. I've fund some on EBAY for sale but no one seems to know anything about them. Looking to find some history on them. Does anyone know of or heard of the Hotco brand. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a few Hotco cars here and there - I don't have any though.
Here is the best link so far on the subject: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/50617.aspx

HOTCO was a subsidiary of GHC, which was the predecessor of AHM. These were all import companies of the late Bernie Paul, based in Philadelphia. Bernie Paul's last company was IHC.

HOTCO trains were mostly knockoffs of Athearn BB freight cars cheapened slightly and with permanent plastic coupler covers held on with a dab of molten plastic in place of removable metal ones. So far I've seen the 40' steel boxcar, 3-Dome tank car and 16-wheel flatcar all made by them.

The HOTCO Athearn knock-offs are some of the last items Bernie Paul imported under the HOTCO Brand. In the 50's, he imported knock-off Penn Line GG-1s, knock-off Mantua/Tyco trollies, 0-4-0 Mother Hubbards, 4-4-2 die-cast Atlantics and brass NYC 4-4-0 locomotives to name a few.

Right now I have a boxcar two 3 dome tankers and I think a gondola, I have to go check on that one and see if it is a HOTCO.
