This Topic is for prototype engine pictures from your personal collections . Please limit the pictures to ones from your own cameras.
Please title your captions for reference. Tell us what you can about each picture and when it was taken. Please do not copy and paste photos, just comment by referring to the author or just the caption title. This will keep the postings simple, shorter and easy to look through.

Old Geeps, These were near Slaton, Texas working in a car storage facility. A GP-20 and a GP-9 of the South Plains & Lamesa RR. The tracks no longer go to Lamesa or much outside of Slaton. It was part of the BNSF until the 90s. They have a CF-7, but I have not seen it.

This is said to be the smallest standard gauge pacific there is:
It's in Coldwater MI on the Little River RR. Interestingly, the Little River RR used to be a logging railroad. I think it was in Tennessee. The railroad where it now runs has acquired both the engine and road name.

I don't have a picture of the real life locomotive I'm going to post that I took except I do have an H0 scale model of it. It's an H0 scale model of the CSX F7 #116 made by Athearn and came from my first train set. It appears that the engine in real life is currently in the C&O Historical Society as of 2008. Here's my model. /tyco/forum/uploaded/kovacste000/20140430193517_IMG_0292.JPG And here's the real thing in 1991 according to the website where the photo came from which I'll put after this picture. /tyco/forum/uploaded/kovacste000/20140430193948_9658.1106019060.jpg http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=91524

Took this "somewhere in North Dakota" - an interesting pair of BNSF locomotives. Going to guess a GP-50 ex-BN, not sure about the B unit.

CFE 506 in the South Carolina Central yard outside of Hartsville, SC on July 29, 2012:
I believe the car coupled to the 506 is one of the cars of the "Trash Train" that South Carolina Central operates between Florence and Bishopville, SC.

Here are some engines of particular sentimental value to me.
Here are the first two prototype locomotives I ever ran: /tyco/forum/uploaded/scsshaggy/20140501201048_IMG_0001.JPG The steam engine is a 36-ton Heisler an is the first one I ran. The Diesel is a Brookville. It uses an International Harvester engine that starts as a gasoline engine then switches over to diesel once it's warmed up. These engines belong to the Silver Creek and Stephenson RR in Freeport IL: http://www.thefreeportshow.com/. SC&S also lets me play with this 44-ton Davenport diesel: /tyco/forum/uploaded/scsshaggy/20140501202138_r_loco7_full.jpg It's the third one I ever ran.
This is the second steam engine I ever ran: /tyco/forum/uploaded/scsshaggy/20140501201522_IMG_0057.JPG It belongs to the Lake Linden and Torch Lake RR: http://www.houghtonhistory.org/ It's a 3-foot gauge Porter saddle tanker. The tender is a later add-on and was built by a student at Michigan Technical University as a term paper in a course. Here I am at the throttle: /tyco/forum/uploaded/scsshaggy/20140501201720_IMG_0058.JPG I also had the pleasure of running their Plymouth gas-hydraulic: /tyco/forum/uploaded/scsshaggy/20140501202626_IMG_0037.JPG

John I saw the George Bush locomotive a couple years ago when we stopped by the UP Little Rock service facility and took a look around near Christmas when it was shut down for the holidays. I'll have to see if I can dig up that picture, along with the Centennial they have sitting at the entrance to the parking lot (the main reason I stopped by).

Don, Cool hobby and unique locomotives.
Jerry, The Baldwin S-2 is impressive it reminded I had a picture of a CB&Q O-A5 form Wyoming. I also like the BNSF B unit. I have a photo (film) some where of a AT&SF SD45 B unit where the dynamic brakes were placeed over the old the cab area.
To all, I enjoy seeing these locomotives from your personal collections.

This is my oldest train photo from my personal collection. I took this I believe in 1979 when I was about 11 years old. Train is the Texas Eagle running very late just south of St. Louis County. Shot this with a Kodak Instamatic and recently digitized and enhanced the image as best I could.

Okay, now I'll truly contribute to this specific thread. I was able to get a picture of a saddle tank loco that the Mount Rainer Scenic Railroad had running when I went there earlier this year. Here's a photo of this beaut.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Norfolk & Western 4-8-0 at the Virginia Transportation Museum, Roanoke , VA. I took this picture last summer. No. 1151 was one of the "Lost Locomotives". She and three other steam locoomotives sat on the scrappers line since 1960. No. 1151 is a Roanoke Shop's design and built engine.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

The tender is a later add-on and was built by a student at Michigan Technological University as a term paper in a course.

Hey, I was up in Houghton MI at the MTU rail engineering program this summer, and I got to ride that train! I don't recall the name of the museum where it operates, but it's confined to a half-mile loop of track and two shop tracks connected with - get this - stub switches The little wooden trestle on the line fell apart since then though, so they can't even make the full loop around the museum building anymore. They're really in dire need of funding there.

I see there's and link-and-pin coupling on the front of this engine. What's on the rear?

ALCO S1, #407. Ex Staten Island Railroad [MTA], nee MTA, nee-nee Long Island Railroad. Built in 1947 for the Long Island Railroad, this unit has always retained its original number, prime mover, and major systems; it hasn't changed much except for mileage.
Pride of the west-end fleet of the Catskill Mountain Railroad, I've had the joy of training on this locomotive, and being involved with ongoing maintenance to ensure another 65 years of reliable service.

This picture was take from the employee parking lot of the company I retired from. The freight yard was about 75 yards from the rear door of the office. What a great place to work.

Glenn sorry about the tardy answer. I just now saw the question. There's a link and pin coupler on the back, too. Instead of a link, though, we use a kind of drawbar with a piece that goes in the coupler and has a hole for the pin. There's a bar hinged to that so it can move up and down, vertically, and another piece on the other end to connect to the link and pin socket of the next car in the train. Making the coupling is kind of scary with these drawbars, because you have to hold the drawbar close to where it goes in the socket to keep it from flopping down, but still have your fingers in the clear. I's a pity I didn't photograph one, because it's a hard thing to describe well.
