While digging locos out for photos, I had to pull these out, so I thought I'd just take some photos of them. This is a Mantua and it's metal boiler. Number 213, I think, from the later 60's.
This one is Lima, it's plastic boilered.
T-237 series, later than 60's, I think, plastic boiler. It just isn't me....it sits on the back of the shelf. Dave

If you need bottom shots, let me know, I am fighting a cold at the moment and am moving slowly. Some show serial # and dates.

Next I'll dig out my Varney Docksiders, but I've done enough up and down for today! Got a couple of others squirreled away. Got one...AHM? my nephew ran off the end of the layout many years ago. Plastic frame...cracked it through front axle, snapped off the pilot (and lost it)....I fixed it, gusseted a new plate across the inside of the frames after I'd glued the cracks. Surprisingly, runs very well now.
I'd bet Athearn Hustlers would count in this thread, right?

Lima copied the Mantua 0-4-0T and they're fairly similar, the CN one is likely one of those as sold by Model Power.
The round tank plastic shell (New York Central) seems to be made to fit the same chassis as the 0-4-0 shifter.

Yeah, the chassis are the same. Or close enough for Government work. I was always puzzled that the AHM/Riv/Lima docksiders had the separate handrails, yet our units here were cast in. Had one I had to scrap....way beyond repair....used the handrails on something that needed them. Dave

The AHM/Rivarossi one exists in at least two forms, one with valve gear and better detail, one plainer and with no valve gear. At one point it was also sold as a Lionel HO piece.
I was digging in a box tonight and found a shell to a Revell dockside I didn't know I had.

The one without a letter in builders plate is a Rivarossi remake released by IHC. Maybe made by mehano.

Here are most of my Varney Lil Joe docksiders:
This one is Varney Lil Joe of my favorites:
The chassis is custom made from a piece of machined brass:
The steam chest was rotten when it came so I swapped on a good used one.

I've been collecting the Varney colorful docksides, I have four of them, although not a one has had a frame with it when I got it. The NYC one someone mostly painted black and I scraped a lot of it off, but I'd buy a better one if I found it. Also have New Haven, SP and MP, need UP and FEC, and some more donor chassis - I accidentally put one on a Revell chassis and need to switch it back.

I really like these little buggers, especially when they are fine tuned to run like a watch. With sound is even better.

That's the first I've seen one on the original frame, I didn't realize to be correct the cylinder saddle should match.
That NYC looks sharp.

Too bad it's so rough, US Army is a scarce roadname. IIRC 1965-1966 only, like the train set that was offered.

Any shots of an 0-4-0 turned into a rapid-transit type Forney engine? One of these days I'd like to build a Forney out of a square-tanked booster engine so that there can be passenger service on a branch line.

Yeah, I've seen some of those online. What the heck was Marx thinking when they designed those things?!

"Omaha" - the only tanker I know like that is the Revell 0-6-0T. Which there is at least one of on eBay right now, because it's my listing.
Marx's 0-4-0T was just a cheap train set engine and in later sets they added a tender to make it seem like a fancier engine than it was.
